Like... I'm thinking $120-$150. I know I'm won't be getting much, but it's only going to be used for commuting to class from the dorms. So, don't need the best, but certainly don't want the worst.
<INSERT some default answer about $150 being to little for a new bike, go find a used bike, blah, blah, blah for a question that is asked every other day HERE>
I had a really nice Huffy (<<< is that an oxymoron? 😛) bike my freshmen year. It had an aluminum frame, and it was really light weight. I paid $100 for it, brand new, and it got stolen. 🙁
I bought that bike in 8th grade. Six good years. Not one problem. 🙁
Get something basic from a store without any rear shocks or whatever and just on the front for $125 or so, then get a new set of tires that are a cross between road and mountain bike tires or something like that. Basically, it seems like you are getting a mountain bike and will be best off with a new set of tires.
