some observations about lcd screens

so i actually went out today, to a retail store...who does that anymore? 🙂 but only cause it's bf.

anyways, i went around and observed lots of lcds. dont remember all the models. but a few struck out to me.

lcd on imac g4- woah, first impression, design-wise: simply ingenious! quite eloguent and extremely functional. wasn't too particularly impressed with the image quality, but if you have played with the rotatable screen you would instantly fall in love with it.

lcd on the upper sony vaio laptops - quite possibility the best i've seen on a laptop. the display is simply gorgeous at 17" widescreen. and you know the nasty door screen effect on lcds? simply non-existent.

other sony lcds - they had quite a few, and some of the newer ones. i am starting to believe these sonys displays the richest and most vibrant colors. which i belive, is a direct result of near nonexistent doorscreen effect. i just couldn't believe i was looking at an lcd (atleast not before i moved the mouse). reminds of an excellent crt monitor, but with crisper and more vibrant feel to them, plus no eye strains. of course this all comes at a cost, REFLECTION...it's quite annoying. though i think it's largely due to the bright store light atmosphere, but the reflection can be annoying at times.

opinion regarding to widescreen display - many of you here have been debating endlessly withyourself as to going widescreen or not (in otherwords dell 2001fp or 2005fpw). after looking around, i now know why jumping on the widescreen bandwagon is the righit thing to do. it just felt right looking at it. i mean you have a greater horizon view than verticle, maybe that's the reason. hard to describe, but the the ability to display dvd the way it's meant to be played, is a big plus. you just need to see it for yourself. though the smaller space area does suck...

i highly encourage you guys to check out the sony monitors, it really emphasis the problem with the screen door effect in lcd screens. i just wished it wasn't so reflective. i didn't get a chance to compare response rates.
