Some moron deleted all my email today at work

I was at work today, and some guy asked me if I could help him figure out why he wasn't getting any email. Usually this means your account is over the 50 MB storage limit, so I told him how to delete his email (or at least the messages with big attachments) and that the server would hold all his mail for a week and if he got back under the limit, he'd get all that mail.

I offered to let him use my station at the computing site, since all the other stations (all 450-odd ones! :Q) were full, and I was already logged in. He took me up on my offer, and I went to go fix a printer jam. I assumed he'd log into our web-based email client using my account and delete from there.

When I came back, I asked him how it was going. He told me he opened up Mulberry (our application-based email client) and saw all sorts of weird messages that he'd never seen before, so he just deleted them all. At this point, I realized that he had opened up Mulberry using MY account (which authenticates ME automatically into the IMAP server), which means he'd just deleted all of MY email!

Reason #6 to never ever under any circumstances let anyone else use your account.

Go check ;)
Already done, and negative. Because it's IMAP, the default setting is to "Purge Deleted Items," not to move them to another folder. The messages have been eliminated for good.

what did you say to the guy that deleted your emails?
I was like, "Ohhhhhhhh no, that's my email...Mulberry authenticates you automatically!" And he was like, "Oh man I am sooooooo sorry."

I asked him if he'd already purged the deleted items, and he said yes. He was very apologetic, but still. :|

Thats about as good as when the admins at my university thought I had already graduated so they deleted my GroupWise email, which at the time happened to contain files for several classes. Took em a few weeks before they even figured out how to restore the mailbox, and by then I actually had graduated.
