Some light reading for the SETI@Home crowd

I own a book called "Interstellar Migration and the Human Experience", which contains an article written by Dr. Jill Tarter in 1983 about SETI. The University of California Press have kindly given me permission to post it to the web.

While (obviously) out of date somewhat in terms of project status, the article gives a broad background to the subject, including the Fermi paradox, the search space, the importance of division into frequency channels etc., and I'd recommend it to anyone who wants to understand a little more about the strategy behind the project they are contributing to.

Then wander over to the SETI institute for an update!

Here's the link.

Thanks for the info, alnitak. 🙂

I don't recognize your name? Are you a member of our Seti TeAm? :Q

Smokeball, nope, I'm a member of the Folding@Home team. Decided to join that because SETI@Home is currently oversubscribed, plus I do think that Fermi's Paradox implies we are the only technological civilization in our galaxy.

Ha, no problem mate. 🙂

But are you going to be surprised! :Q

😛 🙂
