Some kids are so freakin' spoiled...

This one kid in my homeroom is getting the following when he turns 16:

2001 (Brand freakin new!) Jeep Cherokee (leather, CD player, the works)
Mobil Speedpass (so he doesn't have to pay for gas- his parents will!)
No job

Yep, he is getting a car, gas, and he DOES NOT have to get a job!

WTF were his parents thinking?!

I'm not envious, because he will grow up to be a lazy moocher who has no idea the importance and value of hard work- I just think it is ridiculous for a 16 year old to get all of that.

Well...of course i wouldn't mind it...but I'd still get a job. I guess that is what really ticks me off (that he doesn't have to get a job).

Oh well, his parents are screwing him up at a young age by teaching him that doing nothing and getting whatever you want is okay. Too bad, he is fairly book smart too (street smart he is not- he does pot once in a while and gambles- but he will probably (hopefully for his own good) grow out of that).

You're jealous. I wish I had parents who would give me a really nice car. I'm jealous.

Zippy, you just need to learn when to admit you're jealous. Trying to justify that you deserve it more...well that's just plain ol jealousy🙂 Now...let's go find this kid and key his car!😀

Geez....I have alot of nice stuff, but my parents don't pay for any of it. I have to work....sure I have a pretty easy job 🙂, but I had to work at MCDONALDS in order to get the money to pay for the equipment for my current job. And trust me, it just doesn't get any worse than McDonalds🙂

I'm sure your parents would do the same for you too if they are rich. Some people were born with a silver spoon in their mouth.

zippy I think you're jealous a bit too - I know I am.

On the other hand you are also right - no matter how much money parents have buying their lazy 16 year old a brand new fully loaded car is just spoiling them. Last girl I knew who had this, when she got out of highschool her daddy bought her a brand new acura integra. Of all the directionless, unambitious people I've ever known in my life she was the worst. Integra isn't that great if you're 30, still unemployed, and still daddy's little girl.

I know two kids at my HS that got cars on their 16th birthday, but they weren't anything realistic like a tripped-out 2001 Jeep. One got a new BMW Z3, the other a new Lincoln Navigator.

Arg...I'm not jealous!

I am getting a car this summer- a little red Saab with a sunroof, leather, and a CD player, it is my sisters but she is going out of the country most likely to study or just travel.

<< I'm sure your parents would do the same for you too if they are rich. >>

Haha, my dad is one of the hardest workers and believes his kids should be the same, regardless of whether we do well in school (which my sisters and I always do), as long as we try it's fine! I wouldn't want to mooch off of my parents- there comes a point where you have to do some things for yourself. Fine, a used car from your parents, but not a brand new $20,000 car!

<sigh> I had a feeling people would acuse me of being jealous.

EDIT: Killbat, holy crap! :Q

Who said that I deserve it more?

My advice:

Count your blessings. Spoiled brats have a way of staying that way well into adult hood.

I know many people who's parents have provided everything they have ever had and they don't know the value of paying their own way. Kid in my high school got a brand new mustang GT when he turned 16. Crashed it two weeks later trying to go too fast around a curve. Parents bought him another a month later. I drove a $1200 beretta that I worked my ass off to get. Loved it. You appreciate it so much more, and take care of it. I would give anything to have that car back.

That vehicle will be unappreciated, abused, and totalled before he leaves high school...along with the kids work ethic.

Where I work, we hire a lot of entry-level people right out of school. It's not too hard to pick out the ones who have had everything handed to them while growing up.

They tend to whine about how little they make, how demanding the job is (believe me, it's not), what a crummy work environment it is (again, not true), etc. Once a girl told me, "This job sucks. I got a bigger allowance when I was in school than I make here." Hell, then stay at home by all means!

And how dare I complain when they don't show up! "If I don't work, you don't pay me, so what's the big deal?"

Then after about a year they quit and go to work somewhere else. Then about a year after that, many of them will call me up to see if they can come back.

I tell them that the reasons they gave concerning why they left haven't changed, and since they surely didn't like it before, there's no reason to think they'd like it any better now. Every once in a while one of them will say that they didn't realize that it was a good job, they are more mature now, their complaints were petty, etc., and if I get a response like that I sometimes hire them back.

But I have met too many people who don't understand why they should have to work since Daddy is rich. As a rule, they make incredibly bad employees.

I'm sorry if I'm coming off as a dick but 1) why do you care about these kids who don't concern you
2) why must you rant aout it?

The green-eyed monster always gets the best of us but don't let it bother you. Dude, I live in a rich town and a jeep cherokee is poor mans or should I say kids car around here. I know kids in my high school who drive Lexus's, BMW's, Mercedes, etc... There are so many 2000-2001 mustangs I can't even count them all, not to mention all the Lexus and Mercedes SUV's... the most notable cars on the lot:
Pontiac Firehawk (rare firebird) (40k)
Souped up Mustang Saleen (50k)
BMW M5
2000 Corvette

Do I care? No... I drive my mom's 84' Volvo, and although I do admit I feel embarrassed at times, I don't get mad. I work my ass off and still can't afford my own car, but oh well, life is rough... at least you weren't born homeless or starving. You should be so lucky to have a roof over your head and a good education

I like that attitude, madcowz. me, I don't really care much about cars..but I do get envious when ppl have faster computers than I do.

where's that paulson, I wanna kick his ass and steal his comp 🙂 (although it's outdated now..but it's still faster than mine)

Madcowz, maybe they will get the electoral vote someday

it's society's responsibility to help everyone turn out responsibly
(was that redundant?)

who pays for spoiled lazy bastards in the long run?

Unfortunately, that may not be true, since his parents obviously have an income above average, they will probably pay for him to go to college, which he will skate through, partying and screwing off until cramming for 2 days for finals, and will walk out with a little peice of paper that will get him a great job, and he will make great money, do little work, and do the same with his kids, continuing the cycle.
I would be nice to him, he may be your boss someday. (Hey, judging by the last turn of events, he may be president!!)

I wouldn't say that just because their parent's give them a car at 16 and pay for everything having to do with the car they will not appreciate it. I got a car when I turned 16 (OK, so it was a 10 year old Accord, but it was fully loaded) and my parents paid for insurance along with gas. Despite that, I got a job at the shortly thereafter so I could pay for the gas and any repairs that the car would need. Why did I do that when my parents would have paid for everything? Simple, I'm too proud to let someone else take care of everything in my life. 😉 Something about taking money from other people bothers me, my friends think I'm insane when I decline money from my parents for gas or food (of the McDonald's variety). Just because those people were fortunate enough to have their parents buy them cars does not necessarily mean that they will be unappreciative.

Zemmervolt, there is a huge difference between the car that was given to you, and the vehicle that this kid was given. I think it's safe to say that the sales tax alone on this vehicle would be worth more than your 10 year old accord.

Also, your attitude defies statistics. Read the book "millionare next door" and you will see where many of us are coming from.
