Some jerk keyed my mom's car

Yeah, I've been using it for the past week and a half because she had some minor surgery and needed me to come home and help her every couple of days. Some asshole keyed it while it was parked in the main student parking lot on campus. The scratch is pretty deep, all the way through the color, and runs across the hood of the car. Seriously, I'm really upset, that car has 16,000 miles on it and is her pride and joy (2006 new red VW Beatle).

People really suck sometimes.

On a more practical note, is there a chance of fixing it for (relatively) cheap? As I said, the scratch is really deep so I don't think that touch-up paint alone will cover it. Any ideas?

If it's all on the hood, it shouldn't cost TOO much to repaint it. How much that will cost depends on how good of paint job your mom wants. It's likely that the car insurance will cover repairs due to vandalism. Did you happen to file a police report? Doing so would help with processing the claim.

I just noticed it about 20 minutes ago. I'm not sure when it happened over the past week, but my guess is either last night or this morning. I didn't think about filing a report because the likelihood of anyone getting caught is 0.... but I'll do it in the morning if it will help the claim.

Since the car is so new it sounds like a job for either a very good body shop or the dealership ... call moms insurance company tomorrow & see what they suggest you do.

You have to file the report. Your insurance will require that. The cops won't lift a do-nut to find the jackass but it will be a registered complaint. Make sure when you file the report that it shows you filed within 24 hours of the actual incident. That's important. If you file tomorrow just say you noticed the scratch in the moening when you went out to the car.

Sorry dude.

Maybe you can take out some frustration by flaming this moron.

don't feel bad, some guy stole my rims and tires off of my car last wednesday morning at about 2:00am. nothing like seeing your car on cinder blocks.

and of course campus security shows up about two minutes after the fact. if he would have only gotten off his ass and moved quicker he could have stopped them.
