Dude, where did you get the filter? Wondering what they go for. After seeing your pics I went looking for Photoshop IR filters, but they aren't nearly as good.

interesting... what are IR filters generally used for?

IR phptography

obviously ;) I was just wondering if it's just for artistic effects or is there a practical use. thought it was kind of wierd that they'd make such a filter just for effects

both

certian things show up much better in IR, color IR film is/was used alot in areal photography because iot revealed certian aspects of the terrane much better

IR is also used in astro photography

the filter just makes it easier to do digitally because we arnt useing IR sensitive film anymore

There is a practical use.

You can take clear pictures in the dark.

thanks, i think you woudl have to be on the sun to get a shutter speed that is handholdable with a IR filter

Keep in mind this is a filter, not an IR nightvision lense. It only lets IR light in, screening out other light.

exactly

and here some visual proof, these 2 pics were take at the EXACT same settings, only difference is one is with the filter and one is without

the first is extreamly overexposed but had to be to show this

ISO 200, 35mm 30second exposure F/2.8, this was taken at like 2AM and its the middle of the night, nothing has ben done to them other then resizeing, the with filter one is red because thats how they come out of the camera before you color correct them

its the moon there

no filter
