Some stuff from the PCmag review, MSRP $472.99, review date March 2013. Apparently made to add some smarts to a dumb TV, its not clear to me what could be done with it today.

I think that was written when media-players were all the rage. I'm pretty sure that it's a fairly generic mini-PC, like a NUC or Brix or what have you, just add RAM, HDD/SSD, and OS. They run standard PC OSes, pretty sure. (Not something semi-proprietary like a Roku box.)

We'll see, I did order the $39.99 one. Maybe it will end up running my Mom's MagicJack for her.

I looked in the pile of stuff in my office, and looks like I bought a Zotac GT 6100 motherboard ages ago I assume for some crazy rebate deal. Its older, AM2+, no idea if I will get around to using it.

Yeah, these were kind of tempting, but I am already into way too many similar projects, a Dell 140G hybrid, and looking around for a couple OLD mac mini's.

I have an old Dell Latitude laptop with an Intel i3-3120M processor (Ivy Bridge dual core @ 2.5GHz), 8GB RAM and 250GB SSD running Windows 7 64-bit. It runs just fine as long as you don't expect it to be a gaming laptop. I'd expect the same performance from the Zotac ZBOX-ID83-U.

On the other hand, I'm not sure what to expect from the Zotac ZBOX-ID42-U. It has a Celeron 847 (Sandy Bridge dual core @ 1.1GHz). I suppose the GeForce GT 610 GPU helps but I don't think it's quite up to the performance of the Intel HD Graphics 4000.
