What's the difference between WW's Thompson guns and our latest SMG today? (and what is it)

What's the difference between F15 vs F22?

If your talking small arms there really hasn't been any advance other than quality in close to 100 years.
When your talking something so high tech like a fighter aircraft thats a whole different pile. Porbably the pysical aspects using jet propulsion has peaked out but modern aircraft are much more than that. They will continue to improve. . .
I read somewhere everything almost was invented in the first 50 years of the 20th century and the last 50 was improvement and innovation on the first 50

Yup all the time.
Like I said QUALITY
A machine gun is still using primers and cases and bullets , the 30/06 is just that 1906 made cartidge.
and UZI may be more reliable than tommy gun but it is in fact essentially the same thing.
The big diff came once you moved away from single shot muzzle loaders to repeating cartidge based small weapons.
Everything since is more of the same . The mauser bolt action rifle over 100 years old is still considered the best dangerous game action to use.

Caliber is one of the differences. Most SMGs today fire 9mm as opposed to the .45 from the Thompson (.45 is still used, just not that common). Plus, the use of composites and different alloys has made firearms much lighter but stronger and more corrosion resistant at the same time.

The differences between the F-15 and F-22 are immense. As has been mentioned, the F-22 has stealth and supercruise, but it also has vectored engine thrust, a vastly improved radar system, improved avionics and displays in the cockpit, increased weapons load, helmet mounted sighting for missiles (being added to F-15s but slowly), and probably a bunch of other things not released to the public.
