To be breif. I have an old LianLi PC50 enclosure which has always presented a heat issue with AthlonXP processors, due to the mounting of the PSU direclty above the processor. I would like to reuse this case with an Athlon mobile 2200 processor and would like some suggestions as to which motherboards could be recommended for the application. Google searches are not very helpful, too much minutia to sort through on my slow dialup connection. Appreciate any input. I do not intend to OC at this time and will run stock HSF.

agree with Odeen....

the A78NX-DLX gives good bang for the buck... especially if you don't plan on overclocking... there are other flavors out there now as well (A78nxe-dlx, etc>)..
They run around $75-$90

You face the potential of getting almost as many different opinions on this as there have been Socket A motherboards! Generally, MB design doesn't tend to affect the heating/cooling in a particular enclosure nearly as much as the choices of cpu heat sink and psu design do. For that box you plan to use, there are some psu choices with twin and triple fan setups that may be used to reduce the problems with air flow. If you don't plan to overclock, that doesn't totally eliminate all of the OC-Centric MB designs, because underclocking for still-lower heat production is easier with those as well.

The Asus A7N8 family of MB's has a solid reputation for stability, and a lot of them have been sold. There are less expensive options, if price is a consideration in this selection. Shuttle sells their NF2 board, the AN35N, at very low prices compared to the product quality; they do this by making a "Vanilla" board. Some of the A7N8 boards have just about every bell and whistle possible built in. A Shuttle board typically offers many fewer built-ins. (Edit: it seems that right now, Shuttle is more competitive in the A64 area than for XP's. Best I found was $69 shipped)

Agreed, I have heard of several people having lots of success with mobile processors Asus boards. Make sure you have the latest bios revision though. Personaly Though I would go with a socket 754 mobile version of the A64 instead of Socket A 462 on an Asus board. Also I have heard that you will need to use an alpha heatsink and alpha bracket in order to properly protect it.

IMO, it makes little sense to spend $70...$80...or more on a dying platform. Don't get me wrong, I will use Socket A for some time to come and think it still has some life in it, but not $80 of life.

Since the topic creator doesn't plan to overclock, that removes most of the justification for an expensive board. Any of these will fit the bill for much less, and a few of them are respectable overclockers in their own right:

MSI K7N2 Delta2-LSR nForce2 Ultra 400 RETAIL - $58.50 shipped

BIOSTAR M7NCD ULTRA nForce2 Ultra 400 RETAIL - $55.00 shipped

CHAINTECH 7NJL6 nForce2 Ultra 400 RETAIL - $54.00 shipped

EPOX EP-8VTAI VIA KT880 RETAIL - $54.00 shipped

MSI KT6V-LSR KT600 RETAIL - $53.00 shipped

EPOX EP-8KRAI-X VIA KT600 RETAIL - $48.50 shipped

FOXCONN "600A01-6LRS" KT600 RETAIL - $43.00 shipped

:( On numerous previous occasions, I've found the Shuttle A35N's being offered by three or four retailers at prices in the low $50's, and fairly often, sub-$50. Unlike those times, however, I didn't do nearly so well this time around, and amended my suggestion to this thread, to reflect that result.
