Thinking of replacing my Athlon system with a Intel P4 Celeron.

P4 Celeron 2.4Ghz VS. AMD Athon XP2000 Tbred-A

Need some suggestions guys.... Is it worth it to dump my AMD for that P4 2.4Ghz Celeron?

No!!!! And never compare a celeron to anything. It is a neutered p4 chip that probably performs more like a 1.7to 1.8ghz willamette p4 so therefore your 2000+xp tbred is a far better chip IMO.....Eeven if the 2.4ghz could oc to 3ghz+ like the 2.0ghhz celeron did it still wopuldn't be much better then a 2.2ghz p4 northwood and you are still right there with that tbred

Hehe..sounds like going with a 2.4Ghz celeron would be a Downgrade from an Athlon XP2000 Tbred-A eh?

I have seen first hand what dogs the celerons are in performance. Can someone explain why... I have read that the only difference in the Northwood p4/celerons is the l2 cache reduced from 512kb to 128kb. It is just suprising that this single change makes that much difference.

I believe the L1 cache is as well 1/2 or 1/4 as much..... Ppl may correct me but I believe they are running 400fsb as well...

Yeah it is at 400mhz. But I had a 2.0ghz celeron, that was running at 3.1ghz stable(fsb660mhz). And when I got my 2.4 p4 533, all benchies except sandra cpu/arith shot up by 20-30% before I even oced the p4. The Celeron wasn't even a contender with the huge clock, fsb, advantage.
