This is a non-partisan thread. Leave your typical P&N name calling at the door.

Imagine spending a year of your life running for office. All the time and effort put into winning. The time away from your family and spent in hotels.
And then finally election night comes and you lose by .3% of the vote total.
7000 out of 2,300,000 votes? how do you deal with that?

Here are some races I have seen with INSANELY close results.

VA Senate:
Webb 1,172,411
Allen 1,165,149
7000 difference out of 2,300,000 total votes.

Montana Senate:
Tester 198,302
Burns 195,455
2800 out of nearly 400,000 votes

In the House there are races even closer

Wyoming 1
Cubin Rep: 93,197
Trauner Dem 92,227
Less than a 1000 votes

New Mexico 1
Wilson Rep 102,343
Madrid Dem 100,979
Just over a 1000 votes

Georgia 12
Barrow Dem 71,494
Burns Rep 70,610
Under 900 votes

North Carolina 8
Hayes Rep 60,508
Kissell Dem 60,048
450 votes!!!

Connecticut 2
Courtney Dem 121,321
Simmons Rep 121,151
170 votes!!! Damn that would hurt.

Anyone know of a closer race than that one?

In the 2000 Presidential election, Florida, the dispositive state, was decided by a 537-vote difference, out of nearly 6,000,000 ballots cast - less than one one-hundredth of one percent (or do I totally suck at math?).

Yes-----but---the house is already decided---and those races are mere window dressing.

Allen v. Webb in VA is super important---an therein hangs which way the senate tips.

And that crucial power---advice and consent.
