Some idiot layed on the horn behind me this morning.

word. isn't there a better path for you to take?

No, there isn't. It's only 1/2 mile stretch of a 10 mile commute that is without a bike lane. I usually just take the lane because when I hug the curb I get buzzed by impatient drivers. 99% of the time I don't have any problems when doing this. I wouldn't even really call this incident a problem...more of an annoyance.

Oh, and riding on sidewalks is stupid. I regularly hit speeds of 30-35mph on my bike. Would you want me riding on the sidewalk past your children at that speed?

can't slow down to pass peds yet feel it's ok to hold up traffic? I am willing to bet you are more of a hinderance to the motorist than peds anyway...assuming you are working 9-5 ish most kids will already be at school and after probably waiting for their parents to get / take them home.

I am usually on the road by 7:30 and at work by 8:15 or so. Of course I'm a hindrance to motorists...but only for that 1/2 mile stretch because the city decided it was more important to put 3 lanes with no bike lane on the southbound side (BTW-it's not like that on the northbound side).

As I said earlier, there are 3 lanes and there isn't a whole lot of traffic through there. Most of the traffic is going to the courthouse and from the point where the bike lane ends to the entrance to the courthouse is probably 75-100 yards. And yes, there frequently are people on that sidewalk plus I'd have to deal with the same traffic at the intersections while trying to cross. No, it is definitely much safer to take the lane.

So you would be annoyed with having to slow down for Peds on the sidewalk but you can't see why people are annoyed with having to slow down for you on the road?

Is there a sidewalk? Why don't you use that if there's no bike lane? If the road is basically abandoned, then the sidewalk will be too.

You're just going to have to get used to it. One day that moron will do something stupid like this with a cop right next to him and he'll learn an expensive lesson.

Or one day you'll flip off a total nut-job ... seriously man think twice before you screw with potentially insane people in cars when your riding a bike, all that guy had to do was tromp on the gas pedal or jerk his steering wheel & this thread would be about an ATOT'er who got killed riding his bike to work today.

Sure he was a total ass but its just not worth it.

I just wished some of these asshole drivers realize how close they sometimes come to actually hitting cyclists. I've had drivers pass me (while I am in the bike lane) and decide it's cute to cut into my lane for their own amusement. They came close enough for me to realize the passenger in the front seat was wearing far too much cheap cologne.

Can't we all just get along?

In most cities/towns, it's illegal to ride a bike on a sidewalk.
Most people are obviously not aware of this...
