Because it's effin accurate. That's why so many kids are allowed to act like little monsters in public. Too many parents are scared of a scene that played out with the OP.

does your 3 year old have a cellphone? :p

just kidding. don't worry that you stepped over the line. there is only one person in your story that crossed that line. unfortunately, we don't know the person's identity yet.

If the spankings are so hard they are leaving bruises, that is abuse.
Bah....I'm 27 and remember friends of mine picking thin branches off a tree to be whipped with. That didn't leave bruises....it left red marks and scratches.

Kids today are wimps and the folks who don't think pain is a good motivator has never raised kids with problems.

Yep. I have to draw the line when you actually cause contusions on children. If you spank them real hard and it leaves a red mark for a moment or two, that's one thing, but to actually bruise a child, that's a bit too far.

I greatly prefer non-corporal punishments and rewards, as it doesn't stifle development like resorting to violence does.

thats why you go upside thier head in the privacy of your own home, then they learn not to act up in public and to listen to what you say, then you dont have to go through this.

If the cops showed up 20 minutes after you put the kid in the car and you were still there yelling at her, well, that's a long time to be "reprimanding."

You're right sort of. You have the fact that my wife didn't leave me, you also have the fact that I wasn't arrested or delayed beyond the initial investigation.

However, I know where you are going. This is why I was so pissed off because America is turning into guilty until proven innocent. Anyone who knows that a police officer was even called is far more likely to believe I did something wrong. This is why I didn't sleep that night. I was trying to think about anything I did that warranted the police being called.

Definitely an overreaction by whoever called, but kudos to you for having the fortitude to review your actions instead of automatically assuming you're in the right. That's equally as annoying, IMO.

You realize that we don't get to pick and choose what calls we respond to, no matter how ridiculous they sound.

A couple weeks ago a lady called 911 because she didn't get a lid on her ice cream sundae in a drive thru and spilled it all over the car. We still had to respond.

Whoever called the cops fails at life, you didn't even touch her, just yelled. I got my fair share of spankings and the occasional bathroom slipper, I turned out dandy.

sounds like a certain person in here who wanted to call the cops because she saw the parents give their toddler cold meds in a restaurant.

Its sad that all logic goes out the window when there are kids involved. I've heard a lot of stories about photographers getting talked to about "taking naughty pictures of children" when they are just walking around taking pictures of buildings at a park and someone feels they are doing something wrong.

I think this will probably all change in 30 years, all the poorly raised children will grow up and go Darwin themselves (very sad) and the ones that survive will be like "what the hell where my parents thinking"

I well understand how you feel OP. It's highly unfortunate that you more or less had to prove to a stranger in uniform with a gun that you were, in fact, a decent parent, and that you had to do so in front of your children and wife.

I wish the person who called the cops had exercised better judgement (assuming your side of the story is 100% correct). I hope they believed they were doing the right thing.

The law is blunt instrument. It should be a last resort, not a first one.

It sucks that you became "collateral damage" in this affair. If I were you, I would calmly and patiently ask other adult members who were at the pool until I found out who had called. You can BET whoever was moved to call probably revealed themselves with a loud comment or two before doing so.

Then, I would take four hundred and twenty-seven very deep breaths, followed by a series of cold showers.

Then, I would attempt to constructively and non-confrontationally engage that person in a conversation about this incident.

Who knows? They might not be a complete asshole after all. They may simply have been wrong.
