I just had a rash of emails hit my inbox over the last hour. Resumes mostly. Apparently some company in Seattle thought it would be a good idea to use my gmail address as their point of contact to collect resumes through craigslist.

I'm trying to think of something funny to do in the wake of this, but I can't come up with anything interesting this late at night.

Rent a small hotel meeting room in Seattle. Invite everyone for an interview at the same time in that meeting room. Laugh.

This...but instead of small hotel meeting room make it the business that is doing the hiring and instead of inviting everyone for an interview, email all of them back and tell them they've been hired and have to be there at 5AM the next morning. Laugh. Win.

I just would have everyone show up at the office at 1 the next day for a round of interviews. The company will have no clue what happened but think that someone in the company did set up the interviews but didn't tell anyone else.

I am all for it. But with this economy I would really not want to be fucked with on job hunting.

RICK roll all of them call it a day?

I'm all for good humor, but not for fvcking with people desperate to find a job. I would have suggested doing the right thing and letting the company know if they hadn't already updated the email.

I'm replying to each individual with the following:

Hello;

Apparently the person or company that posted the original ad doesn't know their own email address from their ass, as they listed my email address instead. I would apologize for this, however it's not really my fault that some stupid human resources drone screwed up. Anyhow, I just wanted to drop you a line to let you know of this error.

Don't worry, I didn't look at your resume and it will be deleted from my inbox, so there's no need to worry about identity theft or anything. I would suggest seeing if the ad has been updated and giving it another shot. Of course being the cynical kind of person I am, I would likely give up on a company and/or recruiter that can't get its own email address correct, let alone is using a GMail address as their preferred point of contact.

Good luck on your job hunt!

Sincerely,

No one you know.

PS - Watch out for scammers! Craigslist loves to scam people looking for jobs these days ya know.

It would be fun to arrange a meeting at a small coffee shop. For everyone at the same time. Give some generic description of a typical guy.

You'll have 50 people mobbing a coffee shop all approaching the same guy.
