Hello all, I recently bought a brand new asus A7V333, a AMD 2GHz, 333 Corsair Memory CAS2 and an Asus GeForce 4 Ti Ultra.
Yes, I was really happy, a lot of money spent, cool hardware to use, a great computer to build.

Yesterday I carefully packed it all up but after pressing the power button, the system started but no image appeared on monitor and above all no beep was heard from the system.
I checked the VGA cable, monitor, all is ok, the speaker cable in the computer was ok, I inverted it and no beep sounds was heard again.
The power LED and HD LED are up, then after some brief secs the HD LED goes off.
I wonder what can cause this?

Since I have read on the Asus manual that there are different Beep sounds in case no valid memory/no valid VGA card or the CPU is overheated.
But no beep is heard at all.

My guess is that the CPU came to me damaged: my question to you is ... can it be the CPU??

If I made a motherboard start up without CPU what would I experience? Would the VGA card show anything ?

Would the system beep or not?

It could be also the motherboard ... I'm asking you experts in order to find out the cause.
Hope you can help me out, thanks,

Andrea

Back to the basics. Remove everything but the essentials. Use the motherboard , one stick of RAM, and the CPU chip. Disconnect all other cables and devices. With the power cord disconnected, reset the CMOS memory, and try it again.

Do what dkozloski said first.

Also the computer wouldn't even boot up if you don't have a CPU in there. It will boot with no video/ram but that could help you solve a problem componet with beep codes only.

I had an Abit KR7A-133 do almost the same thing. If you're not getting any beep codes, and you're sure the mobo is ok, it's the CPU. Anything else it can produce codes for, but with a dead CPU, there's nothing to process the data to make the sounds.

Something else you might try is removing the motherboard from the case and trying to power it up. You may have put a standoff in the wrong place and are shorting the motherboard to ground.

Thanks to all of you!!!

My top guess at the moment is that I was given a faulty processor; I'll be testing my motherboard out of the case in order to see if she is all ok.

If I'll get the same prob, then it'll be the CPU. It's not the first time I get faulty parts from my hardware store: the prob is that it's far away, I get all hardware at top prices in just 1/2 days but once I got a HD with wrong clusters and now this ....

Fortunately they are honest and nice, no problem with warranty with them ... :)

I'll let you know guys, thanks a lot again, YOU rock (I posted the very same message on another super famous site and got no responses at all ...),
