My local deli makes pretty good made to order subs, and it usually draws a line of about 15-20 people at lunch time. So this guy (college-student I presume) waits in line and is talking on his cell phone the whole time. When his turn comes up, one of the people behind the counter says "next please". The guy doesn't seem to notice. The deli worker says "next please" two more times before the customer realized that he was up. When he approached, the worker informs him that they don't take orders while on cell-phones. So the customer makes some smartass remark and then moves out of the way and lets someone else order.

After a couple minutes he hangs up and the guy comes back to take his order. The customer says "i'm going to wait for someone else to take my order". (there are usually like 4 or 5 people making subs at a time) So the next person comes and informs him that he'll need to move to the back of the line.

The guy gets pissed and leaves the store.

I don't really think thats pwnage, but if I'm on my cell phone while waiting for something (which happens all the time), I tell the person I'll call them back.

That isn't pwnage, but the guy has no manners.

The ownage comes from the fact that the guy was gonna make him his sub, but he said he wanted someone else to make it for him and ended up worse off than if he had just let the original guy do it.

He doesn't have manners? You don't have much manners either talking on your phone in line.

Whats wrong with talking on the cell phone in line. Is everyone supposed to shuffle forward and stare at their feet?

Exactly, how is it different than reading a magazine or newspaper in line?

I'm not going to call someone while I'm in line, but if I'm on the phone as I walk into a store, I'll continue my conversation until I have to interact with the person I need to talk to. But making the person who you need to talk to feel like they are interrupting you and your conversation, thats rude.

Unless you read out loud, it is quite different. I don't need to hear about the fucking boil you had lanced on your ass while I'm waiting to order food.

Now hold on a second here buddy, in the OPs case we're not talking about other people in line here, we're talking about interaction with the person working in the store.

Frankly, me being on the cell phone, is just as bad as me having to listen to some stupid woman and her annoying brat child while buying my groceries at the store, give a penny take a penny, because I'm sure there is something annoying you do in line too.

What happened in the OPs post actually interfered with the operation of the store, talking on the cell phone while in line, doesn't.

If everyone in line was yapping on the cell phone it may make it very difficult to hear what is being ordered.

Seriously what is wrong with these restaurants and shit getting pissed at customers being on cell phones? If I remember correctly the person behind the counter is there to SERVE the customer. Just because he's on the phone doesn't make him a dick. What if the person that was next didn't know what sandwich they wanted? Would that be rude because the poor deli employee would have to wait for a decision to make a sandwich? Only ownage I see here is the deli losing a customer due to their employees being self-righteous jackasses.

How is this any different though if you go with a friend and you both are chatting away while waiting in line? If he was screaming into this cell phone then yeah, I'd be mighty peeved, too.

Restaurants I can understand because you can potentially ruin the dining experience for lots of people that are spending lots of money.

But at a subway? Give me a freakin break, so long as the person isn't loud and obnoxious, go for it.

Edit: The fact remains when it's your turned to get served get the fuck off the phone, tell the person you will call them back, and the guy made himself a douche by saying he wanted someone else.
