some general HDTV info please

Hey all,

I'm considering buying an HDTV. I dont know very much about them. Can any of you guys give me some links to some resources that will explain the basics, and any resources that compare the various models available?

I dont want one that's super huge....so i'm thinking something like 42 inches .

Also, i currently have a self-built DVR which i would like to be able to work with whatever HDTV i get. Its connected to a regular TV right now. Along with a DVD player, xbox, and cable box.

I'm not super concerned about blue-ray or HD-dvd right now... although i would like to be able to use either of those when/if i get a player. And i'd prefer to keep the price under $1500.
