Some EXE files won't start or get Corrupted - Problem Solved

Built a system here for one of my nephews, but got an odd problem.
seen some posts of others having the problem on google, but seen no fixes.

Certain EXE files won't start.it will show the loading cursor then it will do nothing after that.

Also getting corrupt files at times with most exe's,even though the Files work fine on another system.
3dmark for instance.

I'm thinking its a problem with this Board supporting Tbred's or something.

Only does this when FSB is higher the 100 - 100 FSB and it seems to run fine.if i switch to higher FSB,3dmark install exe will get corrupt errors, and Halo exe won't start.after swithcing back to 100,i have to redownload the EXE's,then they will work.

Problem Solved: 2 problems with the system: 1 was that it would only post at the right speed and stay there,if i would set the Multi and the FSB both.if not, then the system would hang or freeze.then for the corruption errors was due to a stick of the Ram.when the system was stable with the 1 stick, after putting the other one in would give Registry Errors soon as it got into windows.

If anyone knows what the problem may be,i'd appreciate any info.

Specs:

Win2k Pro - SP4 - Fresh Install
Shuttle AK31
XP 1700+ - Tbred
GF4 TI4200 - Used Newest Det drivers as well as earlier release - Using 44.03 now
384Mb Crucial PC2100

Thanks.

Random shot in the dark: move the file to the C:\WINNT\TEMP directory and try running it from there. Might want to reboot first.

Ok if i transfer the Halo.exe file to another computer after trying to run it,it won't work on the other system.but if i download the same file it will work on other system, and will only install on the one thats having problems if i install from the Network from the working system.

And also i tried to installed 3dmark,and keeps saying corrupt file.
but when i download the same file on another system,it works flawless.

Seems something with this system is corrupting EXE files, and refuses to run most of them.
I'm thinking this Board is having problems,or perhaps the HD itself.
its an older 10G Quantum Drive.

I've been having funky problems since getting this one going.
locks up in Halo after a few mins, but runs Enemy Territory fine.
tried with VIA Drivers and without. (Win2k Defaults)
also tried newest Det Drivers, and earlier releases.
using 44.03's at the moment.

Temps showing Idle 33C for CPU,28C Case temps. (mbm 5 Software)

Sorry for the long response. 🙂

Hmmm 😕 Maybe run Memtest86 overnight on it and see if it shows memory errors at 133MHz? Or try new IDE cables and a beefy high-quality "overkill" power supply if there's anything marginal about either of those items. Good luck! 🙂

I'll try the memtest here shortly.
but i did try another stick of Ram that works in one of my other systems.

Tried the IDE Cables allready however.

The board just seems flaky.
it keeps showing different post speeds as well for some reason.

at 100 FSB it posts at 1160 or something, and 1250 or so.
and when jumped up to 115 FSB it switches between 1500+ to 1700+.

Same for 133....it will switch from 1700+ to 1800+ every now and then.

Very strange system i must say.

Thanks.

Just wanted to post to say the problem is solved.

Had 2 problems with the system: I had to adjust the Multi and FSB both before it would pickup and stay at 1700+,and that made it stable there after.then a stick of the Ram was bad which gave the Corruption errors, and Registry errors booting into windows.

Thanks for the help.
