Hey everyone,

I'm considering auctioning off my Nintendo Wii and games and maybe a few other items off on ebay. With my Nintendo Wii I have a copy of Super Smash Bros Brawl, Super Mario Galaxy, Super Monkey Ball 2 (Gamecube game), one Wiimote + Nunchuck, 2 Gamecube controllers, and component cables. My question is, would it be best to see it all as a package or should I list the games and GC controllers separately?

Apart from that, what is the best time to end an ebay auction? I've heard the best times are Sunday to Thursday between 9-11PM Eastern, but I'm not absolutely certain.

Any other advice would be appreciated...thanks!

End it during prime time eastern.

The title is the most important thing, followed by the pictures.

I'd say skip ebay all together and go with Craiglist.

Local sale, no shipping hassle
Cash in hand, no ebay/paypal fees (eats about 10% of your final value)
No listing fees, CL is free to list

craigslist

wii is too ridiculous to sell on eBay if you don't know what you're doing.

I love Craigslist ... but unless you are prepared to deal with:

1 - Nigerian scammers
2 - People who tell you they are interested ... but never show up
3 - People who wnat your item but don't have the funds

I would recommend trying to sell it here, in the FS/FT forum first. Your only problem may be that you do not have any HEAT. people with high HEAT may ask you to ship first.

Recommend you use this plan:

Try the FS forum first
Then try Craigslist
Go ebay as a last resort

1 is just as common on ebay. 2 might be more so on CL, but there are lots of people who bid and back out just the same. 3 shouldn't have any bearing on the issue.

Maybe it's just me but I've had nothing but great experinces with people off of CL's

I put an expensive set of Boxflex weights on there, didn't expect them to sell since I wanted 400 bucks for them but I thought since it was free I would try - what the hell right? A dude drove out and picked them up within 4 hours of the ad going up.
Sold a Smart phone, I put the ad up and had a reply within 5 minutes, the guy "needed it within a few hours!" I met him a few blocks away within I dunno 45 minutes.

cash in hand both times. A few things I tried to sell never did, but I didn't get any responses, so I haven't had to deal with any scammers or flakes.

I also bought some shit and the transactions went just as smoothly. I guess it's a YMMV but I love Craigslist.

Try Craigslist! I have bought and sold many things off of their (including my old car) without many hassles. The biggest problem (for sellers) is people always want it cheaper and will say yes...only to reply a day later saying sorry, found it cheaper elsewhere.

^ I bumped my topic because it went to the 2nd page with no responses. I apologize if it caused an emotional toll on you.

Anyways, as far as the Wii is concerned - should I sell it under electronics or games and toys?

In my experience, Sunday evenings are a good time to end listings for computers and related toys, except on holiday weekends (when people are too busy spending time with their families to shop on eBay). Friday evenings and Saturday evenings can also be a good time for geeks to shop on eBay. (How do I know? Well...) :)

You need to take into account the fact that the West Coast is three hours behind the East Coast. When it's 8:00PM in California, it's 11:00PM in New York. You don't want the auction to end too early in the day for people on the West Coast or too late at night for people on the East Cost. I'd say sometime between 7:00PM-9:00PM PST (or 10:00PM-midnight EST) is a good time to end the auction.

If you set a Fixed Price, then the auction can end at any time, you don't have to wonder how much money you'll get if someone buys it, and you won't have to haggle with anyone. (If you put it on Craig's List, be ready to haggle.) A Fixed Price listing might cost a little more than a bidding auction that starts at, say, 99 cents, but it might be worth it. Legally, if you set a Fixed Price, the customer has more legal rights than a customer who wins a bidding auction, and you can't say, "It's an auction, so I have no responsibilities." But if your items are in good condition and you ship them in a reasonable amount of time, then you shouldn't have anything to worry about.

dartworth made an excellent suggestion. Look at other's people listings for the same item, and try to figure out which category works best based on completed listings.

The title is important, but so is a good photo and a concise, informative listing. Don't pollute your listing with a huge technical description that a normal human being could never comprehend (obviously copied from a website you never bothered to read yourself) or a bunch of "policies" that make you look like someone who has a chip on his or her shoulder.

Try something like this:

"Here's your chance to buy a Nintendo Wii with a great game bundle. Includes one Wiimote + Nunchuck, two Gamecube controllers, component cables, and the following games:

- Super Smash Bros Brawl
- Super Mario Galaxy
- Super Monkey Ball 2 (Gamecube game)
(etc.)

Special features:
(whatever)

Everything is in (fair/excellent/like new) condition. It has (some scratches/no scratches).

You get (a xx-day guarantee/no guarantee). I (do/don't) accept returns. If you have less than xx positive feedback, please (contact me before bidding/do not bid).

I accept (PayPal/money orders/whatever). I will ship the item (within one business day/when your payment clears). The item will be shipped via (USPS Priority Mail/FedEx/whatever). Please use the shipping calculator below for shipping charges. I (do/don't) allow local pickup.

Thanks for looking!"
