some dvi questions

i was wondering about the converters a lot of people talk about with dvi-to-crt. does this converter converter digital dvi signal to vga signal or does this converter only work with dvi-analog. also is this dvi-analog signal better than standard dvi or just the same. im asking these questions because i bought a gainward with only tv-out and vga and i want to know if im missing something good here without dvi. i dont plan on using lcds and dont care about multimonitoring. i like regular crts just fine.

Welcome to Anandtech!

If you don't plan on using LCD's, then you want an analog connection anyway. The VGA signals are analog, so you might as well have a card that outputs analog and not have any conversion external happening. You've got the right setup now.

DVI-I output connectors carry both an analog and a digital signal. DVI-to-VGA dongles aren't signal converters, they just provide the analog signal on an old style 15-pin connector. So if your new card has a DVI-I output and a DVI-to-VGA dongle, there's nothing lost, and you're ready for the future.

thanks guys! oh and one more question, is the analog signal that comes through the dvi port the same as the regular vga port in image quality or better?

thanks peter! i was asking about that because i heard somewhere that people with dvi-analog signals get better signal/image quality then regular vga signals. is this just bs?

can you please tell me if the following statement is fact or bull: dvi-anlog signals are better in image quality than regular vga signals. please respond!😎

Since it has already been answered in the thread "DVI-to-VGA dongles aren't signal converters, they just provide the analog signal on an old style 15-pin connector" the answer would still be "no" as in: DVI-analog signals ARE regular VGA signals.
