hi,

I'd like to buy a new phone, and want to get some that will last long. I searched Amazon, and found some S3 variants:

I9300 Galaxy S III
Galaxy S III I747
Galaxy S III T999

I found that just the first has a quad core CPU, and the second has 2GB Ram. Which one to choose ? How to know who will live more, will have more support from community (like Cyanogen, AOKP, etc) ?

I have a Motorola XT860 now and its a war to have custom rom's.

I'd appreciate any hints and info,

thanks,

matheus

The i9300 has the best support for sure, but the US ones are receiving a ton of attention as well so I don't think you can go wrong with regards to development. I have the I747 and the support for it is really good at this point.

A couple other differences to consider between these phones would be:
-The i9300 has a Wolfson DAC so it potentially has better headphone output, I've seen people complaining about the sound out put from both models though so it seems kind of hit or miss. The sound on mine sounds good, I don't get any of the pops or high noise floor that I've seen some people mention.

-The S4 in the US variant's is more powerful per core than the i9300, but the i9300 has a much better gpu. I haven't seen any games that my i747 won't run though, the gpu isn't as powerful but it's not crap either.

-US variants have LTE, this is a big one if you actually live in an LTE area, for me it blows away HSPA.

Where are you from and what carrier do you plan to use? That's very important. I'm guessing you're not from the US though?

The T999 is tmobile's version. I have it, love it but many apps arent allowed to run on it. Max payne mobile for one. I have no idea why but yeah, it sucks. the t999 has 2 gigs of ram but only 2 cores.

That's not T-Mobile issue, it's because it's Tegra (nvidia) paid app. If you have I9300 (not sure about T999) you can use Chainfire 3D to emulate Tegra and run the Tegra games.

Note that the T-Mo S3 will work on AT&T's 3G bands but not the reverse.

Without AT&T LTE coverage I'd get the international one, but there will be tons of dev work on all of them.

hi all, and thanks for all input on the matter. I'm really not from USA, I live in Brazil and I don't know about LTE details in here. I know there is not right now.

I just got curious about the fact of some 2GB RAM versions, that would be better for future (my XT860 is blamed for just having 512MB and this would be an issue with ICS). But thins tend to make me buy the original S3. Does anyone knows if the use of more cores is effective ? My Motorola sucks at this by the way.

thanks again to all,
