Wholesale pork prices are up slightly but nothing crazy. And it helps pork base price is so low. Chicken prices are actually down big because of cheap wholesale wing prices. Prices for rest of the chicken parts are flat to slightly down.

I was expecting higher beef prices with the supply disruption but not this high. And I still don't understand how USDA Select is higher price than USDA Choice. I've seen it happen before but rarely and it's usually only couple cents difference. It's $2 /lb difference for the Eye of the round with lower grade being higher price. Very strange.

Prices at grocery stores like Kroger and Publix are still normal. I track Costco Business Center prices because that's more reflective of the wholesale and restaurant market.

...I'm sure there are people such as hunters who would gladly slaughter cows in their garage and sell the meat for profit...

This might not be a problem in rural areas, but not the kind of home business I would want my neighbor to engage in here in our suburban neighborhood. IMHO a reminder that not all zoning and HOA restrictions are bad.

I'm still wondering why with all the cows we have in the US, are we importing beef?

Tritip is $8.99/lb locally. My friend the next town over said 1 tritip was around $30 (didn't tell me the per lb rate). I think the most I've spent one one before was around $22 and I'd consider that high.

Weird. I NEVER buy tri-tip. But yesterday Safeway had a shit load and I figured "why not?"

Was about $6 or $7 per pound.

They need to let farmers sell livestock/produce etc to anyone, and allow those people to sell the meat or other rendered ingredients. I'm sure there are people such as hunters who would gladly slaughter cows in their garage and sell the meat for profit. Batter than letting it go to waste. But too much regulations and crap and the result is mass waste. Most of these animals are being culled and the meat completely wasted.
Yeah, we should be allowed to setup our own wet markets. Yey us!

Maybe 20 years ago there was a hippie kind of guy living in my house who one day made some Nature's Burger. Smelled so good! I had to try it out. Found some at local market. Since then I've always had some around. It's made from a large combination of ingredients, all AFAIK vegetarian. Seeds, grains, etc. It comes either bulk or in boxes. I have ordered it by the case several times off Amazon, something like 12 boxes/case. I make one burger patty at a time and make a sandwich... just had one, with my DIY whole wheat rye bread, avo, super cheddar, mayo, horse radish, BBQ sauce, sweet pickle relish, onion, green pepper, DIY hot tomato hot sauce, lettuce!

My formula:

1.55 oz nature's burger mix
2.9oz boiling water

Mix in bowl, let sit a few seconds and scoop onto hot oiled fry pan. Flatten, turn, flatten, brown both sides.
