Okay. For the past little while I've been getting a "processor is not installed properly/damaged" message on my MSI mobo's D-bracket 2 device, and the machine hasn't been able to POST yet, no matter what set up I try. My guesses are that I either have a processor problem or I have a socket problem on the motherboard.
For now my solution is going to be get a second MSI mobo just like the one I already own and test the processor/parts that I have now on it, and see if the problem is in the mobo or in the processor. This means removing the thermal paste from the HSF/CPU. So, for the first question, will 99% pure isopropyl alcohol be fine with the removal? I've read that I should use some soft plastic object to "scrape" the paste off, and what should that be?
If I can't get the new mobo to POST on cardboard outside of the case then I'm going to assume that the problem is a CPU-related problem, as even though I'm on my second CPU in trying to get my compy set up, it's definitely a suspect considering the green AMD Athlon 64 packaging material inside being all messed up.
If I get a third CPU and things still aren't working, then after I have shot myself in the face, I'll try some different RAM and a different PSU.
Thanks so much for your help and replies in advance. I truly appreciate it.
