Some companies don't know how to compete

Papas Pizza.
Early last year, their mini pizzas were 3.50
Sometime during the summer, they went up to 3.80
Then 4.20
And now, they raise them to 4.50.

It's a friggin pizza people, it's not hard to make, and it doesn't cost a lot for a mini pizza! :|

(Too bad they're the only ones in town who make a respectable BBQ Chicken Pizza :( )

Oh they know how to compete. They have a product that there is demand for. They will price it for what the market will tolerate.

Very true. Effective competition is not always about selling your product for rock bottom price. Now, if a pizza place in the same area offered a similar product (with as good a reputation) for a lower price...
