My ISP tells me that they run a pnet (could be pnat, the guy was British so i cant know for sure). My building is wired for ethernet and my connection is supposed to be 1Mb, but it seems to be slow to VERY slow most of the time. They have told me to do all sorts of illogical things, such as disabiling firewall. I have complied with all their requests yet sometimes i cant connect at all and if i can i often get booted for no reason. When i cant connect i get the following event error:
The name "WORKGROUP :1d" could not be registered on the Interface with IP address xx.xx.x.72. The machine with the IP address xx.xx.x.206 did not allow the name to be claimed by this machine.
This then followed by this error:
The IP address lease xx.xx.x.72 for the Network Card with network address 00095B084D57 has been denied by the DHCP server xx.x.x.1 (The DHCP Server sent a DHCPNACK message).
My PC then proceeds to find an IP for itself that is always wrong. The only thing i can do is reboot until i find the DHCP server and get assigned the proper IP. I know a little about networking and have had this same machine running at great speeds on DSL and wireless, but i am just clueless here. Aside from helping me with this problem any knowledge of this type of network would be great. TIA. 🙂
