I went to Denver for a business trip last month, and I decided to stay an extra day and do some sight-seeing, thanks to advice from OdiN and other ATers. I ended up walking through the Denver Aquarium one night (Friday the 18th) and then spent the following day at Red Rocks, taking a quick hike and sort of just walking around. It snowed the first night but there were only scattered clouds when I was at Red Rocks.

It's a great place. I'm sort of a work in progress with this hobby, but here are the pics, in album form:
here

Everything was taken on a Nikon D50 with a Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8. A couple of them are a little too soft/slightly out of focus . Most of the aquarium pics were taken at ISO1600, so they're a tad noisy. I was also little panorama happy, and figuring out how to make panoramas fairly efficiently took me quite some time.

Nice pictures of Red Rock! I've always wanted to go...but everytime I hav been flying into DIA, I am usually heading west for the hills. Looks like you had some really dynamic lighting (until the end). Did you use any fliters or PS to make the colors so vivid?

I didn't look through all of them, but the ones I looked at were great.

It's nice to know that my D50 is capable of such great pictures... now I just need to figure out how to do it :)

Thanks! I didn't use any filters (besides the UV one). The color saturation came from mostly adjusting the tone curve for extra contrast.

I think this one is neat:

The clouds "fit" into the landscape.

Not a bad series, although I think the post processing was a bit heavy-handed.

The aquarium shots are quite good, considering the hard shooting conditions... moving subjects, very low lighting, glass that can distort, and the crowds. Aquariums are so hard, but wouldn't it be great to get one all to yourself? Like an after hours pass where you could just spend however long you wanted to get a shot?
