Some burner options, which one to get?

Well, I guess you'd have to RMA 4 HP CDR drives in 4 months to understand... (I also owned a $1000 HP printer and a $800 HP scanner. A couple of the WORST devices ever made. I now have a $80 Epson printer and a $70 Microtek scanner which can run circles around the HP CRAP!)

"I've owned two HP Cd burners and never had a coaster."

If you really believe you NEVER make coasters, go on and live in your little fantasy world. I was making coasters back when CDR's cost $20 EACH, so I think I know a little more than most.

The quality of the CDR media, itself, has increased dramatically in the last year or so. Back in the day, new disks would sometimes be bad straight out of the box. Ever get a tracking error? Now, with burn-proof, quality media, and a fast IDE controller it is almost impossible to make a bad disk unless it is caused by operator error.

I would suggest getting the cheapest CDRW drive you can find that works with the software you want to use. I have a Phillips 8x4x32 ($60) and it rocks. It will write "Disk-At-Once" at 8x speed directly from ANY other CD/DVD drive. The buffer never drops below 100%, even with WinAmp running (on my AMD K6-III 450, no less). I wouldn't spend any more than that...
