some benchmarks comparing the WD 640gb Blue to 150gb raptors

Minimum Transfer: 40.9 MB/sec
Maximum Transfer: 111.7 MB/sec
Avg Transfer: 89.7 MB/sec
Access Time: 12.0ms
Burst Rate: 147.0 MB/sec
CPU Usage 3.8% (probably due to some other variable)

150gb Raptor
Minimum Transfer: 37.8 MB/sec
Maximum Transfer: 84.9 MB/sec
Avg Transfer: 73.4 MB/sec
Access Time: 8.4 ms
Burst Rate: 113.1 MB/sec
CPU Usage 1.9%

tests were done in a regular boot up with system as idle as i can be. both runs of HD TUNE were done with system in as similar a state as possible.

i'm still using the 150gb raptor as my OS and programs and page file.
640gb used only for storage.

Yup, that's about right. Btw, for anyone who's interested in real world results of all kinds of drives and configurations, check this thread out. I found it when I was drive shopping a week ago. You can find an HD Tune benchmark for just about any kind of drive in any configuration, raid or otherwise, that you could imagine in there

in my experience, raid 0 gave me 0 noticable performance increase in real world apps. booting windows actually took longer than with a single drive.
