Some basic voip questions

I've been looking around online, and I can't seem to find an answer to a fairly simple question. With Voip providers like vonage and broadvoice, how much actual bandwidth do they use? I'm wondering because I have torrents going quite often, and so my upload bandwidth is usually like 5% of being maxed out. If I get vonage or broadvoice, will the call quality be terrible, or will I drop calls when my connection is almost maxed out? It seems like this would be a problem that people run into.

Thanks

i assume both will happen

i just remembered someone said something about adjusting their qos on their router...maybe do this for a fix

I had a torrent running one evening and used the phone at the same time. No problem whatsoever.
My advice is to run far away from Vonage. Their customer service is nonexistent.
Try SunRocket

I want to say 128K (without the 'bandwidth saver' feature enabled), but I don't have anything to support that number...

The router I have prioritizes the voice packets, so it's never been an issue with me with uploading anything. Also, Vonage is great and I wouldn't worry about their customer service. I've never had any problems, and the one time I did have a lttle question they were helpful.

Also, it depends on where you position your VoIP device (e.g before or after your switch/router) as to how your torrents will be affected.

Vonage uses up to 96kbps of upload bandwidth, without the saver being turned on. I personally have had a few torrents going, playing CSS or TFC or something, and a webcam going, and been on the phone all at once with no noticable problems.

I've never had any kinds of bandwidth problems with Vonage. I can be breaking necks on Live, my girl can be surfing the web and on the phone with no problems whatsoever. As far as the tech support, I've never needed to call it. It worked like it said it would right out of the box.

im not sure on the amount but im planning on getting vonage soon and will up my DSL to Cable 6mps
