A lot of photoshop was involved so it's impossible to tell(and I'm sure he shot them in RAW)
But, if no photoshop was involved I would've said it was Pentax dslr.

No, for sports/action shots, Nikon can't beat Canon. I'm 100% sure he uses Canon 1D(s) mk2.

Digital Rebel XT sure is nice but it's not so nice when you consider all those limitations. How can a Dslr camera not have a spot metering?? That's just wrong. D70 is a lot and whole lot nicer than Digital Rebel XT, but then again, Canon's higher level of Dslrs/lenses are a lot nicer than Nikon's. And because of that, If I had to choose either Canon or Nikon, I'd choose Canon. I'd use that lame body anyway for the sake of lenses and for the upcoming better body.

1) thats not really a sport hes taking photos of
2) the car is moving between 20-30mph, you coudl use a P&S for that
3) as for your comment below, Nikons lens lineup is just as bit as good as Canons, and better in many respects
4) there is VERY LITTLE Photoshop involved in these
