Some AHCI questions

When i enable AHCI mode (instead of some IDE compatibility mode) on my Asus P5B-E with my new SATA Seagate 7200.10 drive, Xp installation does not recognize the drive.

When i disable it for installation and enable it afterwards XP blue screens on booting.

What is AHCI, what are its benefits and how can i enable it without crashing XP. Does it have to do anything with NCQ as i have read somewhere else?

Thanks

When you install XP initially and want AHCI, you need to use F6 to load the drivers for it, then it should work..at least mine did that way.

Also, if you haven't loaded the drivers at install, that's probably why you're getting BSOD on booting. I think you may be able to install the drivers in Windows but I'm not 100% sure on that one.

AHCI does enable NCQ.
