Ive just set up my new rig

Epox 8RDA+
Athlon Tbred 1700+ Rev A week49.
Thermaltake SLK-800, 80mm YStech variable speed fan
1x LD 512mb PC2700 RAM
Radeon 9500 np (softmod to Radeon 9700 no artifacts)
Western Digital 120Gb (8mb)
12x DVD drive
MSI CDRW drive

I also have a 40gb IBM drive but it wont boot if i plug that in as well. There is nothing wrong with the drive though as it works fine on other systems.

Ive been concerned about the PSU since i got the Radeon due to the extra power drain.

Also i can't get my PC to boot with the Tbred running over 1.67ghz the temps don't hit more than 37 at full load so its not overheating. And the FSB is only at 166 which the memory runs fine at. Ive tried upping the voltage to the CPU but doesn't help 🙁

its a 350W came with the case

readings from MotherBoardMonitor 5 are as follows

Core 0 = 1.58 V
Core 1 = 1.66 V
+3.3 = 2.62V
+5.00 = 4.92 V
+12.00= 12.59 V
-12.00 = -12.27 V
-5.00 = -5.24 V

I don't really know anything about PSU's so i was hoping someone here could help thanks in advance.

Well, it looks like MBM is reading your DDR voltage for the +3.3v reading, so I wouldn't worry too much about that. The voltages look ok, but it's much more telling to observe your voltages while your CPU is under a heavy load. I like to use the Prime 95 "torture test" to load up the CPU, then I watch the voltages. If they fluctuate a lot, it's a good bet the PSU is near it's limit. What brand is the PSU you have? A generic 350W is usually not as good as a quality 300W. If you decide to upgrade your PSU, here is a suggestion I made to someone else with an 8RDA+ system that was looking for a good PSU...

I just snagged one of these new Enlight 420W Dual Fan and Fan Controller PSU's for $46 shipped @ Newegg. It's specs are almost identical to the the much more expensive 480W Antec Tru-Power unit.

Enlight 420W

+5V - 40A
+3.3V - 30A
+12v - 18A
Maximum Output (+3.3, +5v, +12v) - 436W

Antec 480W Tru-Power

+5V - 38A
+3.3V - 30A
+12v - 22A
Maximum Output (+3.3, +5v, +12v) - 460W

🙂

Ok ill run the stress test and see how much it fluctuates and yeah i don't know the make unfortunately but like i say it came with the case so its likely to be pretty poor.

What kind of a fluctuation would mean i should be worrying??

Ok the +3.3 rail is the only one really fluctuating it goes back and forth from around 2.62 to 2.66

As for the cheap PSU you listed unfortunately im in the UK. What should i look for when buying a PSU to make sure that its good quality.

My 8RDA+ would not boot at all with my Antec 300W PS. It works fine with my 420W Turbolink or TTGI PS. I would recommend a new PS.

Thanks for the reply, i think i will i was just hoping someone would say no its fine try this..... lol i guess it was a little optimistic :-D
