yup, thats what suspend button is for. hit suspend and quickly pick up notebook if u need to walk anywhere. probably less convenient if you have a giant heavy thing

that might be brilliant! But do you know the mac address of your laptop? I guess if you don't, maybe the network admin has a log or something. hmm. I guess the best thing to do is to talk to your school's network admins and see if they can help you out. Hopefully they know what they're doing and not clueless.
