Lol, I had the exact same thing happen to me except the person who hit me was a 16 year kid driving his moms suv. I drive a new mustang too and he couldn't see it over the dashboard. The kid had a cast boot on his broken right foot which I'm pretty sure prevent him from tapping the break. Unfortunately for the kid he went to my high school, he received so much shit for it.

My grandmother is still driving and she is in her 80's. But from what I can tell she does just fine. Where she lives they make her retake the full test every year though.

Might as well lay some of the blame on his family as well, for not being tough enough with their love to take grandpa's license away from him.

Had to do that with my dad when he started acting strange (turned out to be senile dementia). Tough decision, but necessary. He started hitting stuff (parked car, back yard fence, side of garage door that we know about) and stopped stopping at stop signs.

That sucks about the car...it is (well was) a very nice car indeed.
I hope his family take away his keys. This time it's property damage but he can really hurt other people.

Yep I agree it's time to take the keys away from gramps. He could injure someone driving like that but also you never know when he might run into a hot head that wants to beat him to a pulp for running into their bumper.

No it's not just a car, IT'S MY CAR! If you don't care about your property, fine. I do! I cut the old man some slack because he was 90+. If it was anyone else I would have continued to yell at them.

I have a feeling the people that say, "it's just a car" own junk and really don't care about their own stuff to begin with. It's no surprise they have this "it's just a car" attitude. It's not just a car, IT IS MY CAR! And I just have one rule when it comes to ANY of my stuff, don't F with it! I worked hard for it and take care of what I have. And I'll be God damned if someone just destroys it in one fell swoop and just walks away from it.

And for people siding with the old man, you should be thanking me for taking him off the road. Maybe when he comes down the wrong side of the road and plows into a family and kills them, I can walk in and say, "hey, take it easy on the sweet old man. He's old and didn't know what he was doing."

There are two people to blame here, the old man, AND the family members that KNEW his condition yet let him continue to drive. Either way, the guy is off the streets now so I have SOME satisfaction there.

It happened to me, the side of my pickup was bashed in while parked, the jerk that did it drove off, my insurance paid for it. It sucked, but I didn't freak out. It's common for cars to get damaged, if your not emotionally capable of dealing with an everyday minor accident I can't imagine what you'll do when an a real tragedy occurs.
I also agree that the old man shouldn't have been behind the wheel, but he probably isn't able to understand that. It's like yelling at a baby or a retarded person, they can't understand, so why do it?
Life isn't perfect, bad shit happens all the time, and the entropic arrow only points one direction. All of your nice things are going to get old and damaged, accept the inevitable. Learn how to accept what you can't change, it's far better than being angry and bitter because your car got dented.

Wow that is awesome, some guy ran into your truck, fantastic. What kind of truck was it? How long did you have it? This is not my first accident, I've had TWO involving old people that shouldn't have been on the road. First was some old lady that cut down the side of my car when I was about 18 years old because her reflexes AND vision were AWFUL. Her fault of course. I was upset, but not really that pissed. It was a '77 Malibu, so not really that big of a deal. It was fixed and on with life. I also had a lady (I don't think she was old though) smash into the back of my truck when I was at a DEAD stop on the freeway due to an accident up ahead. Now I didn't just slam on my brakes and come to a stop, I was stopped for AT LEAST 5 minutes. I didn't even see her coming. I wish I could have gotten the story of what happened and why she hit me, but I was too busy chasing her down the freeway because she took off on me (never caught her). With that, I was pissed, but not that big of a deal. It was a '97 old truck and it just bent my bumper.

THIS was something totally different. It was a new car and something I loved. It would be like saying, "hey man, don't get so upset someone ran into your Ferrari. I had someone run into my truck and I didn't get upset." Not the same. If you aren't upset, you obviously didn't give a sh** about your truck. My car wasn't a Ferrari, but it was a Ferrari to me. It was a car that I truly wanted, not something that just got me around town. And the worst part about it was, it didn't have to happen. People make mistakes, but this was freakin' ridiculous.

I'm not going to keep going over and over the story for you. If you disagree with me, I really don't give a sh**. Again, if you don't give a sh** about your property, fine. I do. Hence the reason for my outrage and anger toward the situtation. If you don't get that, that's your problem, not mine.

i watched an accident like this in tempe a long time ago. i saw it unfolding and slowed down, the dumb kid pizza delivery guy didnt and whipped on past me. the old guy pulled up to a side street that had a stop light, waited for a second and continued through while it was red. the pizza kid t-boned him at about 40mph. the old guy slumped over in the drivers seat and continued to coast across the intersection at an angle and hit the curb and another car on the other side. turned out he had made that trip every day for 40 or so years, and swore up and down he had a green. he was over 90 as well, and was pretty much in autopilot mode when going for his weekly shopping trip. pizza boy tried to make it my fault because i slowed down and didnt hit him. i told the cop i saw him inching out and decided to slow, not sure how he didnt see it happening as well. asshole lost his pizza job and tried to sue me lol.

damn that SUCKS!

nothing worse then having a nice new car and then some tard comes along and bashes it, ruining it for life with an accident on the records.
My Honda was totally destroyed by a new driver. I'm going highway speed on a main highway and this guy runs a stop sign and t-bones my car. Little bastard would have died if he arrived a second sooner. My car would have t-boned him at 60mph. He was so new that he was using a temporary insurance card. Not the pink ones they send in the mail, but the one they email to you that you print using your own printer.

It's somewhat fortunate that old people drive really damn slow. The OP was hit at 1mph and nobody was hurt. Young men have the worst insurance rates because they tend to hit things going a lot faster than that.

I'm sorry, but that's a completely juvenile way of looking at it. You're assuming that he doesn't care about his truck simply because he doesn't go off like a loose cannon at someone that causes damage to it. No one is saying that you have to be happy or pleased that someone caused damage to your vehicle, but the point is that raging on someone for hitting you will not do anything other than show that you throw temper tantrums like those annoying brats in Wal-Mart.

Seems like it's people with really horrible lives who freak out the most. Getting hit won't push your mood over the edge unless it was already close to the edge.

It's being human. People are emotional; some more so than others. Wouldn't you "rage" if something bad happened to something you truly care about, even if the rage is completely irrational?

e.g. If someone accidentally spilled a drink on my laptop and fried it, I would be raging.

I already have a LOW tolerance for incompetence, and when it results in the destruction of my property, I WILL go off. I respect other people's property and expect the same in return. I also expect people to be responsible, but APPARENTLY that is too much to ask. AGAIN, the RESPONSIBLE thing would have been to realize you were losing control and just give up your license. And if you were too far gone to make that decision, your family should have done that for you. That lack of responsibility cost ME money and aggravation which I don't take lightly. If you don't mind throwing your time and money out the window, that's YOUR business. But understand, others aren't as casual about it.

If you have a bunch of sh** you don't care about, fine. I care about my property, SO LEAVE IT THE F*** ALONE!

Seems like people that can't understand the situation either own sh*t or are just slobs. And if you don't take pride in your own stuff, it's no surprise you don't care about other people's property.

And just an FYI, my life is pretty damn nice. ;)

Nice car, too bad :(

I saw an old person making a sweeping turn into my direction today at low speed and thought before seeing face "must be old". Yep. They really shouldn't be on the road.

We are talking about major work to a unibody chassis. Your case was a matter of stuff you can remove with hand tools.

So take the insurance check and buy a new one if it's that important to you. New cars have that nice smell, and you get to pick out a whole new set of bells and whistles. It's a fun way to spend a Sunday afternoon.
