Somalis achieved their objectives

After the fall of the Barre government in 1991 there were many illegal dumping and fishing off Somali waters. To combat these the people of Somalia decided to attack the dumpers and other ships that infringed upon their waters. This proved so successful that the Somalis, along with their Yemeni co-conspirators, expanded their operations and decided to attack any ship they could. Now, no ship, legal or illegal, dares to stray into Somali waters. Of course, the only way to stop the pirates is for a new powerful Somali government to take form.

I am sure that there are plenty of ships that will pass through Somali waters.

And many of the pirates are operating outside the 12 mile limit.

And the pirates can be stopped if the gloves are taken off

Somalia needs to be stabilized so that piracy is not a viable way to earn a living. We tried to combat terrorism in that country, then let it go to hell when things got slightly bad.

So....why can't we just send in a destroyer to blow all these assholes out of the water? Or just put a special ops team on a container ship and leave it sitting as bait? Is that "unfair" or something?
