Somalia - why isn't the world taking a stand?

Can someone explain to me why the world is, for the most part, sitting on it's hands while, literally, millions of people are either refugees in other countries, putting a burden on them, or starving to death?

I for one would much rather see our military put to use spreading good will towards our country than occupying two countries that don't want us there anymore.

What is the United Nations for if not this type of situation either?

These people need access to clean water technology - really not very complicated or high cost - they need protection from the warlords/religious zealots that try to run the place, and basic healthcare needs. We could impact, in a very short period of time, hundreds of thousands of people whose lives could forever be improved.

Does it take a natural disaster for the world to care? How many people in Haiti - as awful as that was - were affected vs what is going on in Somalia right now?

I read somewhere today that the US is giving money to Somalia - who exactly is getting that money, why, and what are they doing with it?

I guess "Blackhawk Down" doesn't ring a bell for you.

Because the only way to bring order to that situation would be to militarily take over the country and impose western law and order like was done a hundred years ago. Sure, we could save millions of lives and put an end to untold suffering and misery... but LIBERALS WOULD FEEL GUILTY ABOUT IT BECAUSE WE'RE EVIL WHITE PEOPLE AND WE CAN'T GO AROUND COLONIZING POOR AFRICA. So I guess that's out.

The country is just so completely fvcked where do you begin? Imagine a house completely leveled by a tornado and your job is to go and find every single piece of wood, fiberglass, ceiling tile spread out over multiple square miles just for that house and stick it back together with glue. Somalia is like that. I actually think north korea is worse, though. Would be very interesting to see what would happen if its regime was excised.

I know your not asking a serious question here are you. Its Africa Black africa. THe EU nations are raping africa not just Somilia. Its been that way how long now . NOW the US and China are moving in . Its a continent being pilleged. The rest of the world putting Africans against Africans and arming them . This is going on a vary vary long time . The west in comfortable with the statis. The african people have to unite and give back that which they have recieved . Till they do that , Nothing will change . Look hard and you can see the monster which is the west.

"because the US and Europe have their hands (and wallets) full right now managing their own countries."

That's not stopping us from sending billions of dollars to other countries.

You are telling me that we can't secure a few camps, maybe help build a few large villages and protect them? I get the country is F'd, but I'm not sure that's a reason to do nothing.

World created the problem and now out of hand. Its a harsh environment where very few hums can survive, only the strongest could survive. Over the years, through food and medicines we have saved several lives there, the weak ones too. Population exploded and now there are more people there than ever before, the rich countries from where the aids came are poorer now, the situation is out of control. There is simply not enough in that land to support its population and we don't have the resources to feed all of them... its sad...

NO I do not. Laugh it up Japans not laughing, That Occurred on an alignment, Christ Church not Laughing . 250.000 dead in haite . The comet elenin is a joke to you but not these people . The crazy weather and all the deaths that occurred . Japan the death count won't be known for sometime but it will be millions. Ya nice comet joke . Do some research . Go back in history . TO those who have REAL power this was expected as its a 3600 year cycle. The differance between this time and the last time is the density of the Atmosphere. Much much heavier 3600 years ago . Fire be the hammer this cycle.

Because it's Africa. No one cares about Africa unless they have some form of wealth, such as oil, diamonds, etc.

Even other Africans don't care...why should anyone else?

Besides, as was already pointed out, we DID try one time to help...and that turned out badly for us.

as soon as you feed em they fusk like rabbits and you'll be over there yet again. This is a decades old problem. What are you willing to give up in your life to feed the hopeless?? Isn't there needy in your own community that can benefit from your hand wringing??

Bush(41) tried and it was going well, that is till billy the clinton took over. As an example the Marine Brigade that went in took control and after about three days had restored peace and order. The streets and stores were starting to fill up and life was returning to normal under the protection of the Marines. Then the Clinton administration had them, the Marines, removed for, get this, being too violent. The Marines? Violent? Never!

It was then after using the great military experience of billy the clinton that we got Black Hawk down. Oh, to put that dust up in perspective, the Somalis took over 1,000 dead. WE just lost the PR battle because of the stupidity of clinton and his ilk. Remember TET 1968. That was a great military victory for the USA but LBJ f'ed that up too. I believe that it is called the lack of leadership.

any money or aid sent to Somalia goes straight into the pockets of the druglords or corrupt goverment officials...until this problem gets taken care, the people of Somalia will continue to suffer....
