Can someone explain to me why the world is, for the most part, sitting on it's hands while, literally, millions of people are either refugees in other countries, putting a burden on them, or starving to death?
I for one would much rather see our military put to use spreading good will towards our country than occupying two countries that don't want us there anymore.
What is the United Nations for if not this type of situation either?
These people need access to clean water technology - really not very complicated or high cost - they need protection from the warlords/religious zealots that try to run the place, and basic healthcare needs. We could impact, in a very short period of time, hundreds of thousands of people whose lives could forever be improved.
Does it take a natural disaster for the world to care? How many people in Haiti - as awful as that was - were affected vs what is going on in Somalia right now?
I read somewhere today that the US is giving money to Somalia - who exactly is getting that money, why, and what are they doing with it?
