I've posted this in Tech Support, but am posting it here in hope of someone who might be able to answer it.
-------------------------------------------
I use a 56k modem and I can only connect *1* time per Windows 2000 session.
After the first connection in W2K is terminated, I have to reboot the computer in order to connect to my ISP. What happens is the first time I try to connect, everything works fine. After the first connection is dropped, I try to connect again. The modem dials, handshakes with the ISP correctly, and then gets to "verifying username and password". From there, it sticks there and doesn't make the connection.
I have tried using new dialup connections with different #s fo the ISP.
Updating the modem drivers.
Using a different person's account/password with my ISP.
Using a completely different modem.
Unplugging all devices from the system other than video card and modem(s).
Switching different PCI slots.
Installing Service Pack 1.
Anybody have an idea? I've had this happen on another Windows installation as well, so this is really starting to make me wonder. It's quite annoying to have to restart my computer after my ISP disconnects me (after 6 hours) or a disconnection.
If anybody has any clue I'd really appreciate any sort of input. Thanks!
