I am upgrading my motherboard to one that has no IDE plugs, only has SATA.

My drives are as follows:

1 SATA - Hard Drive
1 IDE - Hard Drive
1 IDE - DVD-RW Burner
1 IDE – ZIP 100 Drive (Would like to use, but not an absolute nust)

Obviously, I need an IDE to SATA converter, and with are several that I have found, I would like to know which would be the best to buy.

Tiger Direct - has the ULTRA - $40
NewEgg - has the VANTEC - $13
Walmart - has the STARTECH - $14

Thanks,

It would probably be more efficient just to get a new SATA HD, SATA DVD and a flash drive. You could probably get all three for around $100.

its possible he has data on the the old HDD/zip media

to which it would probably better to use something like a USB converter (http://www.newegg.com/USB-Converters...3026?Tid=19422) to just get what was needed off of the legacy device in question

but I otherwise agree that it would probably be more practical to modernize, unless he's wanting to build some sort of Frankenstein retro rig

I just went to Newegg and looked up SATA DVD RW drives, and was astonished to see an Asus 24x for under $20. I had no idea.

Also, I feel really stupid, but I thought one of my HD's was IDE, but they are both SATA drives. One was already SATA when I upgraded the second one about a year ago.

When you get older, the memory is the first thing to go.

I will just get a new DVD RW and be done with it.

Thanks
