Okayyyy. New to this forum but not too new when it comes to computers. ;D
And I don't know if the problem is MOBO or Storage specified, so that's why it's in this part of the forum!
What I've got here is not an uncommon problem, but uncommon enough for me not to be able to find help through Google/ASUS website alone.
First off, let's start with the components affected in a new build I did just a few days ago.
Mobo : ASUS P7P55D-E s1156
SSD : Corsair Force 40GB
HDD : Western Digital Caviar Black 1TB S-ATA III (the 6GB/s one)
Now, my crackling problem is, Windows 7 can't actually FIND the HDD. It could find it when wanting to do a fresh install of win7 (but that's what the SSD is for)
The BIOS will find it, in IDE mode, but should I even try a boot priority in BIOS, it comes up as Removable Dev.
Same goes for the HDD in win7, can see in the toolbar I can EJECT the hard drive as if it was a USB or something!!!
That is what makes the problem so unique, yet subsequently, two buds of mine (the new build was a project in a course at high school) are suffering from the same problem(not finding the regular HDD)
what is weird though is that the ONLY thing we REALLY have in common is the SSD,
to make it easy for you.
Bud nr1
ASUS P7P55D-E LX s1156
same SSD
same HDD
Bud nr2
same as bud nr1
same SSD
WD 1TB AV-GP or something like that! :hmm: - It's the same company so might as well be related.
Now, seeing as I'm the most computer savvy amongst us, they wanted me to piss about in BIOS (had to set my ram to 1600mhz as mobo defaults 1333mhz)
didn't do that one theirs as they need a bios update for that too work.
But cutting to the chase, the only THING I did on their computers, is changing the (Marvell Controller I believe) mode to AHCI mode in BIOS
I've so far tried
- Moving around the cable to different ports || No success
- BIOS update
- After BIOS update, pulled out the HDD and done a normal fresh install of win7 to SSD & after such, plugged in the HDD || No success
The computer(s) are at school, so your ideas directly after you've posted will be hard. But I'll do my best to keep this updated!
