Hello.

I couldn't find a category for general troubleshooting so I'll post here.

About a month ago I tried to turn PC on in the morning, nothing happened. I unplugged and checked for faulty power button by shorting connectors, didn't work. I checked for cables/connectors not connected properly, but PC still didn't start. Checked power switch on MOBO, obviously. I then removed PSU and checked it with multimeter, and it was OK. I reinstalled PSU, hooked everything up and the computer started again. I have no idea what was the actual problem. I forgot about the whole thing. Now, this morning same thing has happened. PC won't start. Have checked power cables, connectors, tried another power cable, no dice. Before I disconnect PSU this time, I wanted to hear if there's anyone here who's got an idea what could cause this. I should add that the small green LED on MOBO is blinking when power is connected, but nothing else. Also, normally my keyboard will light up if I press a key when PC is off, but now it won't.

I find it unlikely that the PSU or MOBO would suddenly stop working, then start working again for a month, then stopping again. It makes sense if there was a faulty connector, but I can't find one.

Any ideas?

Cheers,
Bob

I just remembered that last month I removed the battery on MOBO for a short while and then reinstalled. What I didn't do then was confirming that was the problem before I did other things, like an idiot. I now removed battery and reinserted again and then immediately pressed power button and voila, it started.

Sounds like a dead battery. Usually removing all power though and then things working is a breaker of some sort resetting while unplugged.
Are you powering it off and then trying to power it on and then running into the issue or is it just on all of the time? The full specs of the machine might indicate something. Did you do any upgrades that would increase power demand like a newer GPU?
