[SOLVED...THX!] How do I rename a file extension?

Okay, heres the deal. I created an .rar. Somehow though it has a dos file extension of .ra so it is associated with Realplayer.

If I rename the extension to rar in Windows, it makes the filename "xxxxx.rar.ra" and keeps the association with Realplayer.

How do I change the dos file extension? I've run into this before and never knew how to solve it.

Thx a lot.

What you need to do is change your explorer options so you can see the file extensions which are registered, you can then change them.

For Windows 2000....

Open an Explorer window you move to to the directory which contains the file you want to change. Click Tools | Folder Otions | View then uncheck Hide file extensions for known file types. You will then be able to see the filename (i.e. filename.rar.ra), just rename as required. 🙂

For any other OS the instructions above will be similar.

Good luck!
