here is the story:
3;30 pm i get a call from a friend,he loaded drivers for a memorex keyboard mx8200 in xp pro (dual booting with 98se) this immeadiatly caused a lock up after instalation.he has only one administrator on the computer the guest account is on as well as a non passworded limited account but his administrator account is passworded.
he has a 120 gig harddrive with 2 primary partitions on it 1 for xp on c: the other 98se on d:
he cannot use the keyboard as any key depressing immeadiatly locks the computer.he cannot enter safe mode.he can access the guest and user accounts listed above but doesn't have the ability to change anything since the permissions are not there.
he has 6 hours of video on the hdd from the blue angels air show that he had put on yesterday and i don't think he has a back up as he is dead set against formatting if theres any other way to fix it.
i don't know what to do here(i haven't been there to test anything yet)

any suggestions appreciated

should a different keyboard override the drivers?
98 should still be accessible so can i go thru there and delete the enum key in the register of xp and would that work?
any chance of a dos command working to fix this?
please somebody must have been here before lol

thank you all for any help/advice on this one
mike

Any error codes?

Take an old keyboard with you when you go... may be something wrong with the one he has.

Are the Memorex drivers compatible with XP? You might double check that... I find TOO many products claim they're compatible but when I install, I have problems anyway. It's really annoying:disgust:

no drivers on google
it seems they used these on only 2 prebuilt solutions hence the great price
it just locks the computer microsoft has no info on what to do as i am reading the docs and turning up nothing as yet
i cannot find any actual drivers other than the ones shipped with the keyboard and he is out until he finishes mowing lol
i may hack my setup as it is similar and try the enum key delete or see if i can pull the vids off thru 98se
if it works on mine there may be a chance
but i was hoping to change the drivers in dos for the keyboard or an easy fix

as of now

remote desktop is out as you need athe password unless he was the only account
restore is out it doesn't change keyboard drivers
there are similar problems in the microsoft data base but they require pushing a key

i may try the repair option but that seems improbable since the f8 f5 options aren't working to get to safe mode

dude is getting a dell lol

Here's a hell of way to do this job!

Go into windows 98, and make a text document with the Administrator's password. Then go back to XP.

Get into the guest account, disable the administrators account password using the clipboard to paste the password into the original password field, then make the new password blank. Or create a new account with administrator rights with no password.

Use either of those accounts.

OR, if that doesn't work

....wouldn't it be possible to use 98SE to hand the blue angel's videos over to the 98SE partition and format the XP partition? Seems very simple job to do....

Oh, and you can install a new USB keyboard and use that one. You see, all keyboards can input keystrokes, there is no main keyboard. Install new keyboard, fix everything you messed up, good to go.
