Solved: Suddenly no sound playing MP3's, WAV's, Windows sounds from my PC. But some sound stuff works, go figure.

My PC's connected to an AV receiver. When I have my Winfast card's FM application running I hear the radio just fine. Same with the TV from the card. But when I play an MP3 or WAV file, nothing. I use Winamp but WMP plays silence too. I don't know what to look for. Reboot, no help. Everything seems to be working fine in Control Panel and I haven't made any recent changes. Thanks for any guidance.

What kind of sound card? Did you try reinstalling the drivers?

Do you maybe have something muted in the volume controls, or turned all the way down?

Turtle Beach Santa Cruz. It can't be mute because the Winfast stuff sounds fine. Coming out my 5.1 speaker system AOK. It's just MP3, WAV, Windows sounds mute. I'm going to hold off on reinstalling the drivers. Actually, I'm intending to swap out the card for my GTXP but I'd like to get to the bottom of this before doing that. Thanks.

Went into the Santa Cruz Control Panel and there it was. The Main on the Mixer board was muted. How and why that happened I can't begin to imagine.

The same thing just happened to me. I was searching here and saw your last post. I checked and my sound was muted. I have no idea how that happened.

Do you also use Santa Cruz? What OS? Did you install anything?

I'm using a SB Live with Win XP.

The only thing I can think of that might have caused it was an intallation program kept hanging for me. It seemed like everything installed but the install program wouldn't complete to where you press the "finished" button. I guess I noticed that there was no sound after that. I could hear the MIDI music that the game had, though.

Weird.
