I bought a used Seagate 1TB 7200.12 HDD, reformatted it and put it in my build as a media storage drive. The problem is my system keeps seeing it as a system drive, even though it's supposed to be empty.

I went into the command prompt to look at it and it only shows a single partition, but Windows shows there is 8GB of 'used space' on it.

Anyone know what's going on with this thing and is there a way I can defeat the 'system disk' problem? The whole reason I got it was to build a video storage disk but when it's in the system I can't even get Handbrake to work...

Have you first tried removing any/all partition info on the drive using Disk Manager, then creating a single, new Primary partition and reformatting?

Well, between formatting it on my old XP machine, and forcing it to take another drive letter I think I have it. It now does not show up as a system drive, and I have the proper Hitachi HDD back at D : (and as the true system drive.)

There is still 8GB of 'used space' though...
