OK, I had a Hyper 212 EVO CPU cooler but it was just a bit too tall, and hit on the side panel when the case was all closed up.

I RMA’d that unit, and ordered the Noctua NH-U9B SE2 92mm SSO CPU Cooler. The thing with the Noctua cooler is that it can only be mounted one direction, Vertical (In the Bottom / Out the Top), where the EVO could be mounted Vertical (In the Bottom / Out the Top), or Sideways (In the Front / out the Rear). The Noctua cooler has two 92mm fans, one blowing in from the bottom, and one blowing out the top.

Now, my case ventilation is as follows:

Intake:
- One 120mm intake fan at the bottom front
- Second 120mm intake fan at the bottom side, below the CPU,

Exhaust:
- 120mm exhaust fan at upper rear, just below the PSU
- PSU fan at top rear (In the Bottom, just above the CPU cooler / Out the back of the case)

CPU Cooler:
Intake fan pulls air in from the bottom, just above the side intake fan, and exhausts the are out the top, just a few inches below the power supply fan, and several inches back from the upper rear exhaust fan.

NOTE: Due to the fan setup (Two 120mm intakes, and One 120mm and smaller PSU exhausts), this box should have a bit of positive internal pressure.

It seems like this should work fine, with the possible issue of blowing heated CPU air through the PSU fan. Also, I have read a couple of places that installing the CPU cooler vertical can be problematic. Can any of you speak to the viability of this setup?

BTW, I don't plan on any serious over-clocking, other that maybe putting the CPU from 3.4ghz to 3.6ghz. I may try 3.8ghz, but it is not a must do in any way.

Why can't you mount the Noctua horizontally? I believe that's how most people mount it.

As far as the overall setup goes, it's pretty standard, and should be fine.

This cooler uses the backside portion of the existing AMD motherboard mount. You remove the topside plastic brackets, at each end, and attach new metal brackets in their place, with long screws through standoffs, through the board into the back side portion of the stock mount. These brackets can only go one way.

The metal brackets that attach to the cooler, also, only go on one way. There is a pair of threaded holes on opposite ends of the CPU plate, but only in one direction, and not in the other.

In the end, the cooler ends up being in the vertical position when all is said and done.

If there is a way to install it horizontally, it is not readily apparent, and maybe someone here can enlighten me.

EDIT: Upon further investigation, Noctua offers an upgrade kit to allow the 90 degree rotation on AMD motherboards. They offer it for free from there site, but the invoices to show proof of purchase of the Cooler as well as the Motherboard and CPU.

I purchased the CPU from an individual in this forum, so I don't have an invoice.

After looking a bit, I found that Amazon carries the kit for $6, and with free Prime 2-day shipping, so I ordered one.
