I don't know what happened but I fired up the computer for the first time and immediately entered the BIOS screen. All I did was update the date and time....exited and saved...rebooted and now it is stuck on the Post screen. Think the BIOS is screwed up? Anybody experience this before?

I cannot get into the BIOS. I am at the screen where it says press DEL for setup or Alt F2 for BIOS update. IT just freezes there. The fan on the CPU is running and the heatsink is on fine....I think the BIOS may be screwy.

even though the fan is running, make sure this fan touch ON TOP of CPU. If there is a gap between CPU and HS, the HEAT problem can arise.

if it is possible, try reset or clear CMOS and see what happen.

if it isn't overheat problem, try a different memory stick to see what happens

i don't think that it is bios problem because if it is, you should see some kind of error message on screen or see NOTHING at all

if the problem here is not about heatsink and cmos, do you have another strick of memory to try to see if you have the same problem ????

about your solution. The last time i had your problem was my CPU overheat problem but you checked that already.

Well, That's it..... I went and ordered a bios survival kit from excaliber pc. I don't want to deal with an RMA (or tearing the whole computer apart) right now so I'll give this a shot. I guess we'll see if it really was/is a BIOS issue after all.

Edit:

did you boot your system with SATA or IDE???

if SATA, try IDE to see what happens

i almost got this board yesterday

please let me know how it goes

i will do the same thing in the future

i'd say its memory problem, I also got my nf7-s rev 2.0, after installation, booted up with the 2 stick of 512 kingston valuram, it would just freeze at the POST, no memory test at all. after fiddling around with it... still does the same thing, so i took a 256mb of pny and stick it in and it worked.... I think its got some memory compatiblity problem, or its the PSU not giving enough juice...

First of all, remember that initially I got into the BIOS screen just fine. It was after I changed the date and time, saved and rebooted that I get stuck at the post screen. At the post screen it correctly identifies my memory. Initially I used two sticks of HyperX 3500. When I ran into the problem I took one out and tried the one remaining piece in different slots to no avail. I then put a stick of Kingston Valuram PC2700 in and it correctly identifies that but I get the same freeze. The only odd thing is that it says Athlon 1100 at the frozen post screen when I am using a Barton 2500. I never did see the original POST screen before I went into the BIOS so I'm not sure if it changed or not. The frst time I was in the BIOS setting the time it showed a 2500 MHz CPU though. The frozen screen shows me that I can press DEL to enter the BIOS and Alt F2 to get into AWFLASH but neither key command or any other that I have tried will get me out of that frozen screen.

I even tried another keyboard thinking that maybe the keyboard was messed up.

i've noticed that with my nf7-s the cmos don't like to clear
sometimes I have to remove the cmos battery and turn off the psu and leave it connected for like 5 minutes
also try using the insert button while yur comp is turning on this can default yur system to it's default settings allowing you to boot and enter the bios to fix things

don't give up you'll get it one way or another

I have an NF7-M that I experienced similar problems but could never get into bios.
The solution to my problem was to power cpu fan via molex insted of the motherboard connection. (current draw was too much)

Although, now I am experiencing it again with a Shuttle AN35N-Ultra. With this board I had my 2500+ up and running fine. Then I put in a retail 1800+ entered new bios settings and it hangs at detecting IDE devices. After trying everything I could think of I just bought another board and tried again. Well....I still have the same problem.
I am starting to wonder if I crushed the processor slightly with my AX-7! (Thermalright has the worst fan clip of any HS manufacturer!)

Sorry to leach on your thread...but let me know if connecting to a molex solves your problem!

This recently happened to me...It turned out to be the jumper on my new Western Digital harddrive. I had it configured as the manual said...it would bootup to the post screen and freeze there. I pulled the jumper off and bingo!

I tried clearing the CMOS several times with the jumper. In a last ditch effort I took the battery out and unpluged the PSU overnight. Now I am wondering if I placed the jumper on "clear" when I did that but I don't think it matters.

I have tried pressing the insert button while the computer is powering on to no avail.......

HOLY FRIHOLIES (misspelled deliberately) BATMAN...... I JUST FUGGERED IT OUT!!!!! (just now infact!!!)

I disconnected the CD-ROM drive and got into the bios!!! Now I remember (the haze clears)....

In my infinite wisdom when I first powered on the computer I noticed that I forgot to plug the molex connector to the CD-ROM drive. In an knee jerk reaction I plugged it in with power on......(Stupid, I know)....Now when I exited and saved, and all heck broke loose I COMPLETELY forgot about it until I disconnected it just now and VOILA!

SOULKEEPER your comment about not giving up actually prompted me to take a look at the computer again....Thank-you

We're not out of the woods yet but the clearing is up ahead! Thanks everyone!!!

So now what do I do about the CD-ROM? I'm almost afraid to connect the thing.

:)

Well, I connected the CD-ROM (with power off of course).....in various settings (Master, C/S, and even slave) and no matter what I get the same results. Frozen at the POST screen. I then tried a CD/RW and it works fine. Maybe the CD-ROM is toast? Bummer.....
