Hello All, I am thoroughly confused, & looking for some help.

When I try to play a video encoded with Divx under windows media player it plays fine.

When I try to play the same file using "Windows Media Center" it says that I am missing a codec.

So for now I am using Windows Media Player to play videos, but I would really like to use the UI of media center with my remote.

I just dont understand why One would see the codec & work, but the other product wouldn't.

For info the system is a Dell xps 1530 Laptop, running Vista 64bit home professional, with Only the Divx codec/player/bundle installed.

I also tried a codec pack (K-Lite 4.34) I found in this forum, but didnt have any effect (Windows media player works, Windows Media Center still doesn't).

I have tried uninstalling/reinstalling the divx bundle, and the codec pack, to no avail.

I just dont understand why One would see the codec & work, but the other product wouldn't.

Thanks for the quick response. That solved it.

While looking here & other places, it someone else mentioned issue is Media Center 64bit needs 64bit codecs. Windows media player is 32bit & the standard divx codex are 32bit.

Dunno how true that is,, but your suggestion of just using Xvid fixed the problem.

Thanks again

That might explain why I can play AVI's on my extender but not under WMC.
