it looks to be a larva of some kind.

I think an earwig's young state is a nymph, not larva. Probably not serious. (Just a mildly educated guess though.)

Well I seem to have solved this mystery on my own.
For anyone else who was interested they appear to be Crane Fly Larvae...

So, luckily for me, my catfish will not become a zombie and take over the world.
