EDIT: Nevermind, just had to turn off resizable bar in the BIOS. This game seems to run like crap with it enabled with AMD gpus.
This is my system:
i5-12400F
MSI Mortar B660M WIFI DDR4
2x8GB G.Skill Ripjaws running in dual channel at DDR4-3200 speed with 17-20-20-40 timings
RX 6700 XT
In The Last of Us for PC any time I drop below 50 fps at 1440p high I always see my cpu usage going to 80% or higher on every thread of my cpu and my gpu usage drops to 35% to 65% or so. I know this game chews through system RAM but this happens even when MSI Afterburner is only showing 10-12GB system RAM usage. My 12400F doesn't seem to be throttling since it's nowhere near throttling temps (runs in the mid 70s Celsius at worst in game) but doesn't go above 71W in the game even though I have my power limit at 117W. In Cinebench it'll jump to 96W but then temps get up into the low 90s and I'm guessing the cpu doesn't get pushed harder since then I'm near that 100 Celsius threshold (using the stock cooler). So it's not a power limit in the BIOS slowing my cpu down. Is it possible this is a case of having an insufficient amount of RAM causing this bottleneck? This game will happily eat through 24GB of system RAM on a 32GB system from what I have read. And my i5-12400F isn't living up to benchmarks I have seen, though they were all done on systems with 32GB. Or maybe a case of too slow of RAM? Which really isn't correctable for me since the memory controller on my 12400F can't handle beyond 3200 MT/s without instability when I test it doing big file compression/decompression. Does this sound like something that might be alleviated with going up to 32GB of DDR4-3200 or does this just sound like a straight cpu bottleneck? I don't really understand what's going wrong with my system not living up benches I have seen elsewhere. I always close everything else before running this game since it uses so much RAM.
